i'll be on my computer instant messaging or checking my e-mail or something and about 15 minutes later, or maybe even more my screen will go completely black..but all the lights remain on and i have to unplug it to shut it down and then when i plug it back in it works fine until 15 minutes later.
it's really annoying and i cant tolerate it anymore.
anyone know what to do?
ohh. and im the biggest idiot when it comes to computers so if you could explain it so i could understand that would be great.
i was thinking maybe reformatting could work but then i'd lose some programs i need and i dont have my CD drive thing because i broke it.

its possible that your video card inside your computer is going out. also check to see if your computer settings are set to make ur moniter turn off. you can do that by right clicking the open desktop, go to properties, click on the screensavers tab. then go to the bottom to where it says settings beside of the energy picture. then put all of those settings on never and if it's that it will fix it. but it could be a couple things making it do this.

You more than likely have the screen saver set to blank.
