Hi, i am going to set up around 5 computers for use in our backpackers hostel. Just wondering the best operating system to use, and the best way to set these 5 computers up. They just need to be simple and i am custom building all 5 computers.

Hey go to Google or yahoo and search for windows steadystate thats a good software to use on the computers. It keeps people from destroying it and its free.

One of the most important things is that you don't give the users admin, root or superuser rights as this enables them to realy screw the system up.

I would also recommend making an image of the drives and re-installing the image everyday, so that you put things back to normal.

For Internet Cafe style use, I would recommend using thin clients, these tend to be a lot more robust and more secure.

I have three computers:

1) Home PC with external hard drive

2) Work PC with external hard drive

3) Macbook laptop

I work with projects at home and at the office and on my laptop. I want to be able to synchronize files across all computers. When I work at home, I want that hard drive to have my project files. Then I want to be able to sync that with my laptop then take it to work, then sync that to my office computer hard drive so that the office hard drive has access to these files.

Then vice versa - go home after working on files, keep these files on the work computer, then syncing with laptop, then bringing it home, then syncing with my home pc.

What's the best way to do this?

I have used a lot of softwares but not have found everyone to be as good as our needs. Let me list them for you. 1 means the best and as the number goes higher means okay.

Now you would porbally be thinking who will spent money on this softwares. Let me tell you that you don't need to you can download these from the internet for free by the help of the torrents with thier key generators or crack or with pataches.

www.mininova.org you can search it there and you need to download utorrent just google it. download and install utorrent and then search on mininova. once you done that open the torrent in uttorent it will download for you. follow the instructions you will have you free copy of the software and install it.

Computer game for old microsoft computers?

There was a game that came with the microsoft computers and it had to deal with a mouse that you guided to grab all the peices of cheese and you pushed blocks out of the way and in front of cats that tried to eat you. If you block the cats in a box you could kill them by pushing the block all the way and you would kill them and get points. But what is the name of that game called cause I really want to play it. And does anyone know where you can find that game or might know where to look for it?

I've been taking some general courses at college and have found that I'm pretty good with computers and programs, like excel or word. What are some good paying careers that involve computers and programs but dont require a lot of creativity. I dont want to do anything like creating web sites or web graphics cause im not too creative. Just good with computers and programs in general. Any help would be great

pretty much every office job requires people to be good with computers. administration requires competency with excel and word.

Unfortunately, jobs for "experts in excel and word" dont exist, and an intro computers course wont give you enough qualifications to become an IT person.

Both can handle both games, and infact is far superior to what you'll need to play either. However just don't mix up far superior to the game, and in general.

With the 1st computer, there are 2 graphics cards, if u kick the 2nd off youll save $82. The computer's will be more on par and the 1st one will be cheaper. The 2 graphics cards are over kill if those are the 2 main games your going to play.

If I had to choose, Id go with the first, with or without the 2nd gpu. But I'm a system builder so prefer my own ;)

Yea those are some nice setups. You will be able to run WoW easily full graphics with that. LOTRO im not so sure about...theres alot of detail in the landscaping and such.
They can both play the two games. But I would not prefer either of the games.
both PC's will play both games easy.

Computer Help! I have 2 computers both hooked to the Internet with the same modem. I was told by my

salesman that I would be able to network the 2 computers together with everything I already have, just by using the modem and ethernet cables. Can any one explaine how to do this? If you need more information, I'll try to add it if requested. Thanks!

I think you may have gotten a sales pitch.

If your modem also has a router then you should be good to go. The rule of thumb is you get one ip address to a connection (home type setup). In order to connect two computers simultaneously to one ip address you have to have a router (this allows two computers to in effect share single ip address).

Generally a modem will have one ethernet port, and possibly a USB port. A router will have four or more ethernet ports.

If you dont have more than one port on the modem you will need to get a router. Each device will need it's own IP address and to do this they need to have their own dedicated connection-via a hub

if your modem has more then 1 port yes you can,run a ethernet cable to both or you should have a usb port also on the modem,i run 3 machines off my modem,one wireless,one ethernet and 1 usb,all work great
You could install a 2nd Network Interface Card (NIC) in one of the two computers. Then enable Internet Connection Sharing on the computer with 2 NICs. Then connect that machine to the DSL network bridge (modem). Then run a crossover Ethernet cable from that machine to the 2nd machine.

Computers. You can't talk to your friend through the T.V.

Plus, you can basically watch T.V. on the internet, because video sites like YouTube let you upload and watch just around anything you want (news, music videos, random junk, etc.).

You can also learn a whole bunch of new things...the lyrics to the song you love, how to cook, where your favorite band is touring, how to draw.

Computers open up a whole world of information that just can't be found on the T.V., especially since the T.V. puts programs on at certain times, while the computer allows you to access any information 24/7.

The computer is just great.

Okay like she said you can talk to someone type or by mic, you can watch videos when you want, you can find information about health and food, you can upload pics, find recipes, shop with more options, read up on items you want to know about before you purchase them. Find old shows and movies that you loved since you were little or read up on the newest one out, find your soul mate, or friends.
i think its computer. coz if we using computer and internet we can get more information than we got from tv. we also can choose more and more video, music, gossip and communicate with people via computer by using internet programs. so i think computer more cool than TV
