Hello, I have two computers, and one IP address currently. I would like two computers and two IP addresses completely independant of one another.
I have a process in my mind on how to do this, but I need professional help and suggestions.
Steps:
1.) Call up my ISP and purchase a second IP, which is cable broadband.
2.) Connect my incoming cable line into a hub, after passing through the cable modem. (or do I need two modems?)
3.) From this hub, connect into two routers.
4.) From the routers, connect into each individual computer(s).
Will this set me up with keeping everything on seperate networks? I simply want both comps as stand alones, no communication back and forth. I'd like to go to whatismyip.com and see two totally different IP addresses listed from each computer.
Would the above method do this for me? If not, what should I do? Any help someone can provide is greatly appreciated, as this isn't an area of expertise for me.
Thanks
2 computers, 2 IP addresses. Need some advice or corrective solutions.?antivirus software
Hi,
1) you can not get two different IP addresses from your ISP. Only one IP can be given to any connection at a time.
2) Connecting a hub will not give you two IP addresses and it will only allow one computer to connect at a time as only one computer at a time can connect to the modem. Only one modem can be connected to a line at any time.
