Computers ?!?!!?

How do you do system restore?

Computers ?!?!!?virus protection software

Start button lower left.

Help and support

Pick a task

Undo changes to your computer with System Restore

You have to make a restore point before you go back to one.

Usually you Make a restore point Before you install something new. Then you can go back if the new program messes up your system.

There maybe a few automatic saves in there. Hope you find one that works for you.

Computers ?!?!!?adware

start / all programs / system tools / system restore .. pick a date ..
start %26gt; all programs %26gt; accessories %26gt; tools %26gt; system restore

restore to an earlier time

your data will remain intact

if the system restore is successfull it will tell you

If not it will tell you

If you want to go back to before the restore you can do that as well ( undo changes)

Computers..?

my comp is saying i have low disk space and gives me the opition to go through my comp. it doesnt work though...

Can someone tell me the best way to make my disk space better?

Computers..?virus removal

Uninstall programs you don't use, delete setup files for those programs or others that you have lying around. Get rid of large files such as movies you may have downloaded that you don't watch anymore. In other words get rid of stuff you don't use often.

Computers..?anti virus protection

Turn off system restore, restart computer, turn system restore on again, you will get allot of space.
If you have a cd/dvd burner copy some of your files such as documents and pictures etc this will give you loads of space
Buy an external hard drive and transfer your large files to that

go to control panel then network settings and click reset ipadress Report It

You can't change the ip address the way you do it is hook the computer up to another server like another house or wifi signal.
Depends on your situation.

If its a manual ip address, then you go into network connections....properties...tcp/ip settings and change it.

if its an automatic(dhcp) address, you can't change it.
Your IP address is dynamically assigned by your ISP. It changes every so often, but you cannot force it to change.

The only way to try and "force" a change in your IP address is to power-off your modem for an extended amount of time (overnight). It's possible when you turn it back on you will be assigned a new IP address.

You may also want to clear out your cookies and CCleaner is great free program that will do this for you (it also removes all traces of your online activites).
go to Internet options and select ip address it works 4 my computer
I know there are computer programs that you can buy that specifically say that they change your ISP- BUT I don't know how dependable they are- for more help, try http://www.download.com

Computers shutting down?

2 of my computers have been shutting down in the mist of working on them- no warning- just a complete black screen. After going through the start-up process the main computer would black-out and reboot and the other computer would reboot and stay up for a hour or so. I took the main computer to a repair shop and replaced the hard drive and memory. At the computer shop for 1 week, the computer did not shut down-AT ALL. After returning the main computer home during the starting up process the computer continued to shut down. I ever took the main computer room to room in my apartment and it continued to do that same thing. I brought a new computer and the new computer also continued to shut down as well. I took the computers to a friend's home and both of the computers booted up with no problems. I live in an apartment for 9 years and has never had a problem with electrical power. The TV鈥檚, stereos and clock are not affected, how is this possible?

2 computer towers, 1 no keyboard, monitor, mouse. How can I connect the two computers so I can use fil

I have 2 computer towers, 1 does not have a mouse, keyboard or

monitor. Now, the old computer will not boot up without having the

keyboard, mouse and monitor connected. What I would like to do

is to connect my new computer to the old computer so I can use

the files on both computers using only my new computers keyboard,

mouse, and monitor.

What would be the easiest way to do this? Can I use a KVM switch

to "boot" both computers and then use a usb or someother simple cable

to directly connect the two computer and have access to both computers?

Thanks

2 computer towers, 1 no keyboard, monitor, mouse. How can I connect the two computers so I can use files on bothwindows

You are exactly right. A KVM switch will let you use only one monitor, keyboard, and mouse. In order to share the files, you will need network cards in both pc's. Here, you can either get a crossover cable to connect the two, or a router, so that both can get to the Internet. The router will let both connect for things such as updating your antivirus programs on both pc's.

Problem with connecting two computers via ethernet/cross-over cable?

I have two computers, one has vista, the other has xp. I'm trying to transfer files from the xp computer to the vista computer. I'm almost positive I'm using a crossover cable. I just used the following site to create a connection between these two computers:

http://www.5starsupport.com/tutorial/net...

Both of the computers recognize the connection as the other computer shows up on both computers. However, the XP computer cannot ping the vista computer using the command prompt. The vista computer can ping the XP computer on the other hand. Although the XP computer shows up on my vista computer, when I try to access it, it asks for a password. I disabled all password protection on the xp computer but still it asks for a password. Anyone have any ideas about this?

Problem with connecting two computers via ethernet/cross-over cable?

Sounds like a firewall config problem to me.

Try closing both firewalls, and ping each way again.

Start one firewall, repeat.

Then configure the firewall program that is giving you the problem.

Job done.

Why does a computer that does not exist show up in my list of workgroup computers on my home network

Hey guys, I just set up an in-home network connection to connect my 4 computers through my Linksys router. I had one computer that gave me problems, and I had that computer named as "ALEX". I was unable to access shared files on ALEX because I got a message saying the network path could not be found. So, I tried uninstalling the McAfee virus scan and firewall services on the computer, and I also changed the name to "MEDIA" (since it is my media computer).

After I uninstalled McAfee and changed the name, the computer showed up in my network connections and I was able to access it just fine. But the computer "ALEX" is still showing up in the list of workgroup computers, even though it does not exist anymore since I changed the name of the computer. When I click on ALEX I get the same message I always did before, "network pathway not found".

Is there any way to stop this computer from showing up in the list? I don't like a computer that doesn't exist showing up on the network.

Why does a computer that does not exist show up in my list of workgroup computers on my home network?adware remover

The name is stuck in your cache. There are two command-line scripts you can run to try to solve the problem. The first is "ipconfig /flushdns", to clear the dns cache. The second is "nbtstat -R" (make sure the R is in caps). This purges and reloads the remote cache name table. Run both of these, ALEX should disappear.

Computer not allowing access to other computers on network?

I have a home network and all computers share files fine except one. This computer can access shared files from the other computers but will not allow access to its own shared files from the other computers. It is using windows firewall and I do not have a third party firewall installed. I have exhaused every option withing the computer and cannot find the reason. All options for sharing have been set correctly. I have been through all the firewall and network connection device options.

Anyone have any ideas as to how I can remedy this. Is there maybe a way I can detect what could be blocking this computer from the network?

Computer not allowing access to other computers on network?adware

Suppose the computer that isn't able to share it's files is called computer A, the others are called B and C. Have you tried turning off the firewall completely on computer A, then tried accessing files on it? If you still can't, the problem lies within sharing the files or folders. If you can, the problem lies within the firewall settings.

Are you sure Computer A's address is different from the other computers (and your modem/router)? Are all computers on at the same time?

Vista computer can't see other computers, why?

I recently baught a new computer with Vista installed on it, its the first time i've reall used Vista. I have 3 other computers with XP on them. The problem is that the Vista computer can't see the XP computers, and vice versa. They are all on the same network and the XP computers see each other fine. I've tried connecting the Vista computer both through wireless and through a cable, but didn't get a different result. The vista Computer also gets internet just fine, and also detects the router, so it doens't seem to be the router's problem. Anyone have any idea as to what might be wrong?

Which version of Vista? If you got the very basic home version it may not even be supported. You may also want to turn off the UAC.

Try disabling the UAC (User Access Conrtol) by following method #4 here:

Three Computers, One Printer, Password Protecting?

i read that i can password protect my printer sharing so that only people on my computer can print, however lets say i have 3 computers and one printer and the only people i would like to protect my printer from are the ones that don't live here and by that i mean.

Is there a way so that when someone goes to printing on the other 2 computers they would need a password each time to tell my printer to print something without them having to actually be specifically on my computer to do so. I want to password protect my printer from other computers and not my computer specifically. Like if my sister wants to print something, she would have to type in the password in order to do so, but if someone else gets on her computer the would also need to know the password. Most of the time my nephew lets people on his computer and if they wanted to, they could print something, so thats why i need the password protection for.

Three Computers, One Printer, Password Protecting?anti virus scan

Well you have a couple options. There are some printers that require a password for ALL PRINT JOBS! These are usually expensive cannon printers. What you CAN do is set up your printer as a shared printer and then set permissions for certain users. You can do this by right clicking the printer and turn on Sharing and Security, then select the permissions button and setup the user permissions

A Network Problem Between My Computers...Help?

Alright, to start it off, I have three computers, in this case I'll name them Comp.s A, B, and C. Computers A and B are both running on Windows Vista (A is a Windows Vista Home Premium Desktop and B is a Windows Vista Basic Laptop). Computer C is a Windows XP PRO Desktop. Computers B and C run through a residential gateway or in other words, they connect to the internet from another computer that of which is Computer A. In simpler words, Computer A's connection with the wireless router is Wired and the other two are wireless. Okay so here's the problem, I can see Computer C, my Windows XP Desktop, on Both of A and B's Network maps, and on their Network Device Windows. Computers A and B can access each other perfectly, but A and B can't connect to Computer C and C can't connect to A and B. All three of my computers are in the same workgroup, and they share the same network. Computer C is the problem, It can't access the workgroup, and connect to other computer on the network. Problem

A Network Problem Between My Computers...Help?anti virus

A couple of suggestions, can computer C see A and B? You could have a windows firewall issue on computer C or if you are running a different brand of firewall it could be your problem. When you try to connect to a shared drive on computer C from A or B, does it give you a pop up box that says it cant connect, or does it just sit there and never do anything? I had a simular issue with two windows 2000 boxes, that had the signon accounts disabled, so when I turned the computers on they just went right into windows. They were both set to administrator logon, but we had two different passwords set up on the two computers, kept getting an error message that I didnt have permission to connect to the other. I made both administrator passwords the same on both boxes and next thing I knew I could connect and share the drives...

Computers gender,joke for everyone?

A French teacher was explaining to her college class that in French, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine. House is feminine 鈥渓a maison.鈥?Pencil is masculine 鈥渓e crayon.鈥?br>

A student asked, 鈥淲hat gender is computer ?鈥?br> Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups male and female - and asked them to decide for themselves whether 鈥渃omputer鈥?should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for their recommendation.

The men鈥檚 group decided that 鈥渃omputer鈥?should definitely be of the feminine gender (la computer) because:

1.. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;

2.. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else; 3.. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later review; and

4.. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your pay cheque on accessories for it.

The women鈥檚 group, however, concluded that computers should be masculine le computer) because:

1.. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;

2.. They have a lot of data but still can鈥檛 think for themselves;

3.. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and

4.. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

The women won !!

Your question is very difficult to follow. I believe that you want to have two computers on your LAN, not share any files between them. Have one with a P2P sharing program, the other not available to P2P.

Make sure file and printer sharing on both computers is DISABLED.

Make a port forwarding entry at your router such that all requests made by the P2P program are forwarded to a specific system's IP address. That one being the Win98SE system.

I don't get what you want.

First you were talking about opening up a port in your router to let the P2P program goes through.

Career Question On Computers. Average Salaries of an IT? Is it worth going into?

Hey guys, I just recently graduated from high school and I am not exactly sure what I want to do yet. All I know is that I want to do something with computers, building them, taking them apart, Fixing problems, etc. From what I hear, that would mean being an IT at an office somewhere, I could be wrong. What type of schooling would you suggest for this? Would it be better to go to a technical school, or try and get my 4 year degree for this. Are most jobs out there requiring that i get atleast a bachelor's degree to work for them? The 2 most common Major's I see in colleges for computers is Computer science and Computer engineering. But I looked into both of these and Computer Science is more with programming than anything else, and Computer Engineering is more of designing everything that goes into a computer I believe. What I want to do is fix computers, rebuild them, and fix problems with software and other things on the computers. What is the best job for what I want to do?

My suggestion for you is to conduct your search for answers backward. Rather than thinking about what degree and school to pursuit, start from what kind of jobs or tasks you like to do.

So go to a job sites and look for IT related jobs. Search for the kind of jobs you might like to do. Job descriptions will tell you what you need to know in order to apply.

Sounds like you're trying to do everything right. Firewalls are the #1 issue, but those are disabled.

First, I would check the IP addresses for all computers to make sure they're on the same subnet. If your wireless computers are getting a different IP range than your wired, you'll have problems networking them peer-to-peer.

Second, I would try again from scratch. Pick a different workgroup name and join all four computers to the new workgroup.

Sounds like a windows firewall issue. Click Start run and type in cmd and hit enter. See uif you can ping the machine name example - ping computername . If you cannot ping the machine then find out why that is - firewall, est est . I bet you will be able to ping the machine name that you CAN access...
Run the network setup wizard on all four computers, found at start, settings, control panel, network connections, network setup wizard. Make sure network workgroup is same, computer names are different. Make sure in "My Computer" for each computer, at least one file or directory is shared. Right click on that directory, click on properties, and then sharing.
