Connect two computers using lan?

got some questions to ask. i've got two computers at home. side by side. one computer is connected to the internet by a modem.

the other computer can only connect to the internet when i unplug the modem from the first computer and plug in in the second computer.

is there anyway to connect these two computers together to the internet using a single modem? do i need a lan card and an ethernet cable to connect these two computers to connect to the internet?

and how do i go about setting up a lan connection that can connect both computers using LAN unified under one modem?

first, u need three ethernet port.(if u using broadband).if not, just 2 will do.

hook up computer A with 2 ethernet port.

computer B, only 1 ethernet port.

get one cross cat cable, connect the computers with it.

the other one (com A) just a straight cat cable to your modem.

then run the connection wizard for com A. select all computers connect to the internet thru this computer.

then go to com B,and run the wizard,

this time, select this com connect thru a gateway from another computer.

there u have it..

either way, just get a router and forget all the above.

connect both computers and the modem to a hub or switch. you can get either at a Best Buy or similar, fairly cheap any more.
