Computers ?!?!!?

How do you do system restore?

Computers ?!?!!?virus protection software

Start button lower left.

Help and support

Pick a task

Undo changes to your computer with System Restore

You have to make a restore point before you go back to one.

Usually you Make a restore point Before you install something new. Then you can go back if the new program messes up your system.

There maybe a few automatic saves in there. Hope you find one that works for you.

Computers ?!?!!?adware

start / all programs / system tools / system restore .. pick a date ..
start %26gt; all programs %26gt; accessories %26gt; tools %26gt; system restore

restore to an earlier time

your data will remain intact

if the system restore is successfull it will tell you

If not it will tell you

If you want to go back to before the restore you can do that as well ( undo changes)

Computers..?

my comp is saying i have low disk space and gives me the opition to go through my comp. it doesnt work though...

Can someone tell me the best way to make my disk space better?

Computers..?virus removal

Uninstall programs you don't use, delete setup files for those programs or others that you have lying around. Get rid of large files such as movies you may have downloaded that you don't watch anymore. In other words get rid of stuff you don't use often.

Computers..?anti virus protection

Turn off system restore, restart computer, turn system restore on again, you will get allot of space.
If you have a cd/dvd burner copy some of your files such as documents and pictures etc this will give you loads of space
Buy an external hard drive and transfer your large files to that

go to control panel then network settings and click reset ipadress Report It

You can't change the ip address the way you do it is hook the computer up to another server like another house or wifi signal.
Depends on your situation.

If its a manual ip address, then you go into network connections....properties...tcp/ip settings and change it.

if its an automatic(dhcp) address, you can't change it.
Your IP address is dynamically assigned by your ISP. It changes every so often, but you cannot force it to change.

The only way to try and "force" a change in your IP address is to power-off your modem for an extended amount of time (overnight). It's possible when you turn it back on you will be assigned a new IP address.

You may also want to clear out your cookies and CCleaner is great free program that will do this for you (it also removes all traces of your online activites).
go to Internet options and select ip address it works 4 my computer
I know there are computer programs that you can buy that specifically say that they change your ISP- BUT I don't know how dependable they are- for more help, try http://www.download.com

Computers shutting down?

2 of my computers have been shutting down in the mist of working on them- no warning- just a complete black screen. After going through the start-up process the main computer would black-out and reboot and the other computer would reboot and stay up for a hour or so. I took the main computer to a repair shop and replaced the hard drive and memory. At the computer shop for 1 week, the computer did not shut down-AT ALL. After returning the main computer home during the starting up process the computer continued to shut down. I ever took the main computer room to room in my apartment and it continued to do that same thing. I brought a new computer and the new computer also continued to shut down as well. I took the computers to a friend's home and both of the computers booted up with no problems. I live in an apartment for 9 years and has never had a problem with electrical power. The TV鈥檚, stereos and clock are not affected, how is this possible?

I have 2 computer towers, 1 does not have a mouse, keyboard or

monitor. Now, the old computer will not boot up without having the

keyboard, mouse and monitor connected. What I would like to do

is to connect my new computer to the old computer so I can use

the files on both computers using only my new computers keyboard,

mouse, and monitor.

What would be the easiest way to do this? Can I use a KVM switch

to "boot" both computers and then use a usb or someother simple cable

to directly connect the two computer and have access to both computers?

Thanks

2 computer towers, 1 no keyboard, monitor, mouse. How can I connect the two computers so I can use files on bothwindows

You are exactly right. A KVM switch will let you use only one monitor, keyboard, and mouse. In order to share the files, you will need network cards in both pc's. Here, you can either get a crossover cable to connect the two, or a router, so that both can get to the Internet. The router will let both connect for things such as updating your antivirus programs on both pc's.

Problem with connecting two computers via ethernet/cross-over cable?

I have two computers, one has vista, the other has xp. I'm trying to transfer files from the xp computer to the vista computer. I'm almost positive I'm using a crossover cable. I just used the following site to create a connection between these two computers:

http://www.5starsupport.com/tutorial/net...

Both of the computers recognize the connection as the other computer shows up on both computers. However, the XP computer cannot ping the vista computer using the command prompt. The vista computer can ping the XP computer on the other hand. Although the XP computer shows up on my vista computer, when I try to access it, it asks for a password. I disabled all password protection on the xp computer but still it asks for a password. Anyone have any ideas about this?

Problem with connecting two computers via ethernet/cross-over cable?

Sounds like a firewall config problem to me.

Try closing both firewalls, and ping each way again.

Start one firewall, repeat.

Then configure the firewall program that is giving you the problem.

Job done.

Why does a computer that does not exist show up in my list of workgroup computers on my home network

Hey guys, I just set up an in-home network connection to connect my 4 computers through my Linksys router. I had one computer that gave me problems, and I had that computer named as "ALEX". I was unable to access shared files on ALEX because I got a message saying the network path could not be found. So, I tried uninstalling the McAfee virus scan and firewall services on the computer, and I also changed the name to "MEDIA" (since it is my media computer).

After I uninstalled McAfee and changed the name, the computer showed up in my network connections and I was able to access it just fine. But the computer "ALEX" is still showing up in the list of workgroup computers, even though it does not exist anymore since I changed the name of the computer. When I click on ALEX I get the same message I always did before, "network pathway not found".

Is there any way to stop this computer from showing up in the list? I don't like a computer that doesn't exist showing up on the network.

Why does a computer that does not exist show up in my list of workgroup computers on my home network?adware remover

The name is stuck in your cache. There are two command-line scripts you can run to try to solve the problem. The first is "ipconfig /flushdns", to clear the dns cache. The second is "nbtstat -R" (make sure the R is in caps). This purges and reloads the remote cache name table. Run both of these, ALEX should disappear.

Computer not allowing access to other computers on network?

I have a home network and all computers share files fine except one. This computer can access shared files from the other computers but will not allow access to its own shared files from the other computers. It is using windows firewall and I do not have a third party firewall installed. I have exhaused every option withing the computer and cannot find the reason. All options for sharing have been set correctly. I have been through all the firewall and network connection device options.

Anyone have any ideas as to how I can remedy this. Is there maybe a way I can detect what could be blocking this computer from the network?

Computer not allowing access to other computers on network?adware

Suppose the computer that isn't able to share it's files is called computer A, the others are called B and C. Have you tried turning off the firewall completely on computer A, then tried accessing files on it? If you still can't, the problem lies within sharing the files or folders. If you can, the problem lies within the firewall settings.

Are you sure Computer A's address is different from the other computers (and your modem/router)? Are all computers on at the same time?

Vista computer can't see other computers, why?

I recently baught a new computer with Vista installed on it, its the first time i've reall used Vista. I have 3 other computers with XP on them. The problem is that the Vista computer can't see the XP computers, and vice versa. They are all on the same network and the XP computers see each other fine. I've tried connecting the Vista computer both through wireless and through a cable, but didn't get a different result. The vista Computer also gets internet just fine, and also detects the router, so it doens't seem to be the router's problem. Anyone have any idea as to what might be wrong?

Which version of Vista? If you got the very basic home version it may not even be supported. You may also want to turn off the UAC.

Try disabling the UAC (User Access Conrtol) by following method #4 here:

Three Computers, One Printer, Password Protecting?

i read that i can password protect my printer sharing so that only people on my computer can print, however lets say i have 3 computers and one printer and the only people i would like to protect my printer from are the ones that don't live here and by that i mean.

Is there a way so that when someone goes to printing on the other 2 computers they would need a password each time to tell my printer to print something without them having to actually be specifically on my computer to do so. I want to password protect my printer from other computers and not my computer specifically. Like if my sister wants to print something, she would have to type in the password in order to do so, but if someone else gets on her computer the would also need to know the password. Most of the time my nephew lets people on his computer and if they wanted to, they could print something, so thats why i need the password protection for.

Three Computers, One Printer, Password Protecting?anti virus scan

Well you have a couple options. There are some printers that require a password for ALL PRINT JOBS! These are usually expensive cannon printers. What you CAN do is set up your printer as a shared printer and then set permissions for certain users. You can do this by right clicking the printer and turn on Sharing and Security, then select the permissions button and setup the user permissions

A Network Problem Between My Computers...Help?

Alright, to start it off, I have three computers, in this case I'll name them Comp.s A, B, and C. Computers A and B are both running on Windows Vista (A is a Windows Vista Home Premium Desktop and B is a Windows Vista Basic Laptop). Computer C is a Windows XP PRO Desktop. Computers B and C run through a residential gateway or in other words, they connect to the internet from another computer that of which is Computer A. In simpler words, Computer A's connection with the wireless router is Wired and the other two are wireless. Okay so here's the problem, I can see Computer C, my Windows XP Desktop, on Both of A and B's Network maps, and on their Network Device Windows. Computers A and B can access each other perfectly, but A and B can't connect to Computer C and C can't connect to A and B. All three of my computers are in the same workgroup, and they share the same network. Computer C is the problem, It can't access the workgroup, and connect to other computer on the network. A Network Problem Between My Computers...Help?anti virus

A couple of suggestions, can computer C see A and B? You could have a windows firewall issue on computer C or if you are running a different brand of firewall it could be your problem. When you try to connect to a shared drive on computer C from A or B, does it give you a pop up box that says it cant connect, or does it just sit there and never do anything? I had a simular issue with two windows 2000 boxes, that had the signon accounts disabled, so when I turned the computers on they just went right into windows. They were both set to administrator logon, but we had two different passwords set up on the two computers, kept getting an error message that I didnt have permission to connect to the other. I made both administrator passwords the same on both boxes and next thing I knew I could connect and share the drives...

Computers gender,joke for everyone?

A French teacher was explaining to her college class that in French, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine. House is feminine 鈥渓a maison.鈥?Pencil is masculine 鈥渓e crayon.鈥?br>

A student asked, 鈥淲hat gender is computer ?鈥?br> Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups male and female - and asked them to decide for themselves whether 鈥渃omputer鈥?should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for their recommendation.

The men鈥檚 group decided that 鈥渃omputer鈥?should definitely be of the feminine gender (la computer) because:

1.. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;

2.. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else; 3.. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later review; and

4.. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your pay cheque on accessories for it.

The women鈥檚 group, however, concluded that computers should be masculine le computer) because:

1.. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;

2.. They have a lot of data but still can鈥檛 think for themselves;

3.. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and

4.. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

The women won !!

Your question is very difficult to follow. I believe that you want to have two computers on your LAN, not share any files between them. Have one with a P2P sharing program, the other not available to P2P.

Make sure file and printer sharing on both computers is DISABLED.

Make a port forwarding entry at your router such that all requests made by the P2P program are forwarded to a specific system's IP address. That one being the Win98SE system.

Career Question On Computers. Average Salaries of an IT? Is it worth going into?

Hey guys, I just recently graduated from high school and I am not exactly sure what I want to do yet. All I know is that I want to do something with computers, building them, taking them apart, Fixing problems, etc. From what I hear, that would mean being an IT at an office somewhere, I could be wrong. What type of schooling would you suggest for this? Would it be better to go to a technical school, or try and get my 4 year degree for this. Are most jobs out there requiring that i get atleast a bachelor's degree to work for them? The 2 most common Major's I see in colleges for computers is Computer science and Computer engineering. But I looked into both of these and Computer Science is more with programming than anything else, and Computer Engineering is more of designing everything that goes into a computer I believe. What I want to do is fix computers, rebuild them, and fix problems with software and other things on the computers. What is the best job for what I want to do?

My suggestion for you is to conduct your search for answers backward. Rather than thinking about what degree and school to pursuit, start from what kind of jobs or tasks you like to do.

So go to a job sites and look for IT related jobs. Search for the kind of jobs you might like to do. Job descriptions will tell you what you need to know in order to apply.

Sounds like you're trying to do everything right. Firewalls are the #1 issue, but those are disabled.

First, I would check the IP addresses for all computers to make sure they're on the same subnet. If your wireless computers are getting a different IP range than your wired, you'll have problems networking them peer-to-peer.

Second, I would try again from scratch. Pick a different workgroup name and join all four computers to the new workgroup.

Run the network setup wizard on all four computers, found at start, settings, control panel, network connections, network setup wizard. Why are computers very usefull to us?

Uses of computer %26 related resources. The influence of computers is universal. Computers are used in applications ranging from running a farm, diagnosing a disease, and designing to constructing and launching a space vehicle. Because the development of computers has been largely the work of scientists, it is natural that a large body of computer applications serves the scientist. To solve scientific problems researchers must deal with the language of science: mathematics. To understand more deeply complex natural phenomena, scientists must use complex mathematical relationships and volumes of data too impossible to manage without the aid of computers. Many scientific computer programs serve the entire population. The links included herein relate to computers and their uses.

computers are so useful simple example is , we two are communicating with each other . without computers it wouldn't have been possible
In my opinion a computer is very useful to all people. Hello Dear,

My computers d drive is missing/corrupt & my computer wont restore! PLEASE HELP!!?

Okay, so heres the deal. My computers like..screwed. The D drive mysteriously disappeared. It doesnt even show up on 'My Computer' however, when looking at my device manager, it recognises my D drives, but there is a yellow circle with an exclamation point inside it.(!)

Various programs on my computer are now showing issues, for example, windows media doesnt work, neither does the search feature on the my computer/control panel areas. etc.

Ive tried to restore my computer, however it wont allow me too. I tried restoring it through safe mode, the run command, control panel..everything. It simply wont open in safe mode what so ever..and it opens with the run/control panel approach, but the window stays white and blank..it wont load.

I cant use the system reboot disks, because obviously...my computer wont read the disks.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!TT^TT

Three of four computers can connect to the internet.?

I can't seem to resolve this issue. A cable modem is feeding into a DLink DI-614+. That is sent to two computers and a printer. These all get IP's and can share files, print etc. The fourth output is sent to a simple 4 way Hub's WAN/Uplink port. The hub then connects to two additional computers in an office located less than 100' feet from the router. The third computer receives an IP and can connect without issue. The fourth computer shows it is connected to the network, however receives no IP address or Internet. The settings seem to correct, they are the same on all computers, other than IP's obviously. These computers connect on their own fine. Additionally, when I plug a switch in before the router and hub, the router works and all computers on this router connect, but no computers work on the hub. Am I missing something? Is the simple hub acting perhaps, as a switch therefore not sending an IP to the fourth computer? I've looked for documentation for the hub online with no avail

Three of four computers can connect to the internet.?auto protect

I suspect your simple 4 way Hub is actually a router, since you describe connecting the WAN/Uplink port.

Another possibility is this is an exceptionally cheap hub that has five ports, but only four can be used.

I had previous experience with a similar cheap piece of s**t. In this case, the WAN/Uplink port (let's say port 1) is actually wired in common with the adjacent port (call it port 2). If you are connecting to another switch/hub, use the WAN/Uplink port and skip port 2. If you are setting up a standalone workgroup like a LAN party, skip port 1 and use the other four ports to the right. So in one configuration you can use ports 1,3,4,5. In the second configuration you can use ports 2,3,4,5. If you have ports 1 and 2 both connected to live devices, connectivity goes to hell if when devices on ports 1 and 2 go active at the same time.

Can two computers connected to the same internet source view the same content?

If there is a computer upstairs on the internet, using a dial-up connection and a computer downstairs with the same dial-up connection, can one computer surf the internet and the other computer view the same content? The same question applies to broadband service.

In other words, the computer upstairs is on dial up. The line downstairs sounds like all that modem-popping, internet-surfing stuff. If I turn on the computer downstairs and plug in the phone line, can I view the same pages downstairs, download same songs downstairs,...etc while the computer upstairs is doing it? Without physically connecting the two computers or using routers or such. Just through the internet connection.

If you've got some form on internet sharing set up, or two telephone lines then "yes".

Broadband is totally different as the broadband modem/router usually comes with multiple ports.

Computer geeks, What piece of equipment is necessary to network computers together for a large corpo

I have an assignment for school to explain basic computer terms to a CEO of a fictitious small rural hospital, and recommend a system for the hospital In my paper I have made the point that we should network our computers to a bigger hospital, since our small hospital does not have the space or resources to house data storage. What piece of equipment do I suggest in my paper that would allow our computers to network to the bigger hospital's? I have come across networking switches, but do we need a networking switch on every computer that we want to network? My professor suggested a dumb terminal, but I don't know which computers would be dumb and which ones wouldn't. HELP!?

Computer geeks, What piece of equipment is necessary to network computers together for a large corporation?bmw

For your problem dumb terminals are, quite frankly, a dumb idea.

What you need is a router. Preferably one designed to host a "router to router" VPN (virtual private network). You cable your local computers to the router (add a switch only if the router doesn't have enough ports to cable all your computers). The router connects through the internet to a router at the larger hospital, which has a server, data storage and all the other "bells and whistles".

The VPN creates a "virtual" network, linking all your computers to those at the bigger hospital. The computers at either end of the VPN literally can't tell whether they're in the next room, or across the country. As far as the computers are concerned, they're all right next door to each other.

Computers shutting down all the time...Please help!!?

Okay I asked a question like this before, and checked it out and here are some possible reasons why my computer migt be shutting down but if you could help that be good :

Three dogs if your pc is low to the ground get it setting higher. You can buy compressed air cans at walmart and like stores for a couple of bucks that will clean out your computer good. norton is the worst anti-virus I kept getting viruses with it. I have a couple of links for you for free anti-virus and free anti spyware. If you are not using anti spyware you should be. After you clean out your pc see if the top fan starts working if not you need to replace it. Other than that if your not to keen on computers you may need more help, could be hard or software problem. Hope this helps.
bring it to a pc shop or to someone who know how to clean pcs and let him clean it up for you.

How do I network 2 home computers & 2 identical hp psc printers, each printer to print from its

I am adding my daughter's computer and printer to her bedroom. I installed a router and cable connecting from my cable modem to both of our computers and have operational e-mail and internet access. My computer prints, as usual, from my computer on my hp psc 1200 series printer. My daughter has a Dell computer and also a hp psc 1200 series printer. Her printer works fine for copies and when I first installed it, also printed from her computer. Now I can't make either printer work from her computer. I've checked the USB connection from the printer to her computer and it seems to be OK. In the Control Panel/Printer %26 Fax list, my comuter shows my hp psc 1200 series printer and also an Auto hp psc 1200 series on CINDY-A4CO4MMAO, which I think is the number of her computer. That option doesn't appear on her list of printers. I think I need guidance. I am a 79 year old lady who is reasonably good with my computer but not knowldgable about hardware or networks. Thanks for any help.

How do I network 2 home computers %26 2 identical hp psc printers, each printer to print from its own computer?computer security

Well try uninstalling both printers from both computers, then reinstalll them again and see if they work....that should fix the problem, before you reinstall the printers make sure that you unplug them while they are turned on and leave them unpluged for a couple of seconds, that way the printers reset themselves, When you reinstall each printer, reinstall them one at a time. That should fix the problem.

Sharing between two computers.. please help me?

There are two computers in my home network. They were shared previously. And due to some reasons I had to reinstall windows. Now, there is sharing no more. I had tried a lot since last 2 weeks to get out of this problem but failed!!! They do not ping each other. However, we can say they are connected because whenever one computer is booted the other one senses it and notifies that the next computer is either opened or closed. But there is no connection as both the computers do not show each other.

The next problem is that, whenever the two computers are plugged in.. both had the restarting problem of the same kind and also started parallely. For the time being, I have unplugged the sharing cord from one of the computers. And there is no restarting of computers since then.

For not pinging problem I also formatted the next computer. For checking whether it was due to the firewalls or any other factors to block the sharing connection.

please help me out of this problem

Sharing between two computers.. please help me?computer virus

1)I would check the loopback to see if the NIC is working properly. ping 127.0.0.1 on both PC's. If not reload your card drivers. You can get them from the manufacturers website usually

2) Assuming they are running XP, go to the control panel and make sure the firewall is off.

3) While in control panel, make sure you have the Network Connections configured properly--both cards need to have IP installed, both need to be on the same subnet and mask--i.e., IP 192.168.1.2 and the other PC is 192.168.1.3 and they both are on subnet of 255.255.255.0. Type IPCONFIG at a command prompt to verify this.

so i was wondering if anyone knows how to figure out this password so i can get onto my computer!

OK, Ma'am, I'm guessing that you're panicking because you see a "password" that's a long string of dots/asterisks, am I right?

Well, you don't need to panic, because, that's just a cover to mask the possible password. If you didn't have any password there in the original, it doesn't have any there, either.

So, all you need to do is click on the "Start" or "Go" or whatever button and Hey, presto!

Hope that helped.

All the best.

Computer Microphone (Headset) Will Not Function Properly but Works On Other Computers?

Since my computer headset with microphone works with other computers but not mine, I'm assuming that it's my computer that's the problem.

Before any of you tell me to open up my volume control, here is what I've tried.

I've opened volume control and no, "Microphone" is not muted.

I've gone to Options%26gt;Properties then clicked on the "Recording" tab and "Microphone" is checked and selected on "Recording Control" so that isn't the problem.

"Device Manager" has no problems with it.

I can hear perfectly fine with my headset but trying to talk through my microphone is almost impossible.

The only possible way that I can hear myself is if I scream as hard as I can and it still sounds far away (I tested this with Windows Sound Recorder and Ventrilo).

Is there any other solution?

(Buying another mic is really unnecessary as other working microphones will not work on this computer either)

Hi. There could be a number of issues as to why your microphone is not working. Here are some things to consider (starting with simple things that are commonly overlooked):

- Turn off your computer completely, and restart after 30 seconds or so. Sometimes drivers will have a problem and wont restart. Restarting solves a number of issues with Windows. When I worked for SBC Global, it was the first thing we had the user do for all tech support issues.

Old computers for server/super computer...?

I have a laptop and several old desktop computers, and I want to combine the processing power of all the computers into my laptop. I don't know if what I want is even possible, although I would imagine it is. What I want to do is have an OS on my laptop that allows me to use all the software I have, or atleast most of it, if that is not possible then I need to find good replacements for that softwatre to use on the new OS. I want my laptop to them seamlessly split the work load between the other computers, so that I can accomplish tasks much faster, such as rendering video and such. Basically, I don't want 4-5 networked computers, that I can only individually control. I want 4-5 networked computers working together as one, sharing hardware seamlessly without the need for me to write my own programs to accomplish tasks such as video editing.

Please don't just answer by simply telling me "linux", because that does me no good. I need to know which version of Linux...details please.

Old computers for server/super computer...?downloads

If they already are networked, you can control each one from one computer using Symantec pcAnywhere. It's complete remote control. As for using the collective power of the processors, you'd need to daisy chain the mother boards in some sort of Beowulf system, but then you still want to use the software on the other computers, so that won't help.

Allowing 2 computers to connect?

hi im trying to send stuff onto my friends computer, the stuff is around 8 gigs total and it would be easiest and simplist to connect the computers together. HOWEVER: whenever i connect the two computers together and type in my friend computers name it asks me for a password for the "guest account". My friend and i both have our guest accounts turned off, and its asking for a password. After trying all the passwords i could think of, it still wouldnt let us on. Then i tried turning on both of the guest accounts and it still didnt work. The computers are succefully talking with each other, Everythings fine, i did this with my dads computer and it didnt ask for a password. So how can i get into the shared documents on my friends computer through mine? all answers will be accept. PLZ AND THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!!!

If you have another account setup on the computer try to change the "guest" account login to a different login and use the correct password for this account.

Allowing 2 computers to connect?hp

try using .. admin or administrator for the password

next try setting up a new network account between the two computers give it a name and set the folders to share or save the file to a cd and copy it to the other computer..

If possible use a rewritable cd then it can be used again.. over and over.. you will need to have the right cd burner software to format the cd to a rewritable format
its extremely difficult to link computers like your talking about doing... it would probably b easier for you to just get a flash drive save everything o nyour computer on it then transfer it to her computer
Download Filezilla - both the server and the client. Run the server on one computer and the client on the other computer. Use the client to connect to the server. Then upload or download (depending on which you installed on what) the files.

Hacking Library Computers?

Ok, so I'm at the library but I can't get any sound because right clicking has been disabled, which means I can't change the sound (I have headphones I want to use for Youtube). I opened the task manager using Crtl+Alt+Delete and clicked the processes tab. There, I found the process "PCcopclient." I googled PC Cop Client and found out that is was the software used to limit usage on library computers. What I want to know is this:

If I end this process, will my computer time be unlimited and will right clicking be enabled again allowing me to change the volume? Or will the computer crash and bring attention to me for being the only disconnected computer thus having me banned from the library computers? I have my own computer, but it would be nice to be able to use the library computer for other things besides browsing the internet.

Hacking Library Computers?firewall

Ask the librarian if sound has been disabled on the computers. Perhaps there are certain computers that have sound and others that don't (that's the way it is in my library; I have no idea why; take it up with IT :-) ). If so, the librarian can direct you to those computers.

If sound is disallowed, you can explain to the librarian what you want to do. I would think either s/he will try to help you or explain to you why sound is not allowed with headphones.

I wouldn't suggest ending any process on the computer. It's not *your* computer, it belongs to the library, and any changes you make have the potential to harm the computer.

i dont know thats a hard question.
You may not have administrative rights on your computer. Make sure that the account you are logged onto is one that has admin rights (check under Users in the Control Panel). I don't know what you are talking about with the computer icons. It could just mean that you are connected to a LAN network and you weren't before (because that is what that icon looks like). What are the icons for? Right click and see. Rest easy though. The likelihood of your computer being connected to another very improbable. See if you can log on to your Administrator account....
Yes, they can but in your instance I'd say this isn't they case. No, the person who knows the administrator password isn't your administrator... unless you are paying them to be one. You can change or clear the administrator password in just a few seconds using Linux:

Two computers, XP, How to get all of the favorites into one or both computers?

This is about what I want to do...if I can.

Take all of the bookmarked websites that I have from my home and laptop computers and update them. Get them all on one computer to where I can see them all. Get rid of the ones I do not use. Organize the ones that I do use in a system that resembles a filing system as opposed to something that looks like someone with A.D.D has been let loose on my computers!

I would like to put the updated version of my filing system/bookmarked sites at that time on each computer.

Then after completion of this I would like to have the ability to automatically forward any website I bookmark to the other computer that I am not currently working on.

I imagine that you will answer with, "network them." I don't want to do anything that will cost me a bundle but, will make networking them the goal if need be.

Thank you so very much for your answers.

Have 3 computers connected to a router w/WPA2. If one gets a virus/hacked into will the other 2 be v

Basically I use that 3rd computer just for just downloading(music, movies, ect). So basically my question is if my 3rd computer gets a virus...can it spread to the 2 other computers using the same router and can a person that somehow hacked into the 3rd computer via a virus then easily hack into the other 2 computers which did not download the file?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Your computers are not going to be "hacked" with WPA2 security. And as long as you have a good antivirus program, a virus is not going to get past the router, so you can relax. Just get AVG 7.5 or Avast Home Edition and you'll be good. The most you will get is some adware, which Ad-Aware will catch if you download and install it.

I only have 1 computer on a wireless router with WPA2 security. Nothing gets past it except some annoying spyware, which I clean up twice a week with SpyBot and Ad-Aware.

From your own question page, this ad,

Monitor repair up to 17" $79. 19" are $89

Of all components, monitors are cheap. 19" LCDs are under $200. And our at least 5 year old 15" original LCD is still working???

So if you are not using an LCD, move to it. You may want to look into an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS). There's a good chance your power to the monitor is not stable, causing the early demise. If you have it plugged into the PC, get a different power cord.

I love computers I know alot about computers but...?liveupdate

If you go to a 4-year university and major in computer science, you're going to have to take a lot of math. No way around it.

Let me recommend that you consider a 2-year technical school or community college. The future job market in computing looks promising for grads of that type program. Math will still be involved, but not as much.
If you really want to make money in the computer field, you have to know the technology from the bottom up, and unfortunately, this involves math.
30 or 50 years , DESIGNING computers required a lot of math.

computer science was taught in math departments. but that is not really where we are anymore.

Go ahead and make it your major. there are lots of job options in the computer industry, just as there are options in computer majors.
Im in a computer related course in college and it has math subjects like algebra, trigonometry and calculus(though it has no relation to my course)

I think your talking about computer engineering. As oyu know engineering course requires a lot of knowledge in math

What are the importances of ergonomics in computers? What are some ways ergonomics can be imposed in computers making people more comfortable while using their computers? What are some types of injuries related to the computer when egronomics are not concerned...what are the solutions?

If I wanted to make a new style of computer equipment such as headphones, keyboards, mice...what feature would you like on it that would make it more egronomical and more comfortable to you?

Ergonomics plays a vital role in computing today. Does you back hurt after sitting at the computer, how about your shoulders or neck? These are things that basic ergonomics can address.

As for ergonomic designs, a negative tilt (tilt from front back) keyboard would be ideal for wrist position. A verticle mouse, preferably moved by the shoulder is also a good idea. For the monitor, as long as the monitor is even with your eyes, you wont strain your neck reading it.

Three computers broke...any1 know why?

The symptoms:

At first one of the computers would just shut off inexplicably... but it was only once every couple of months or so; so it was no big deal. Then the second computer started doing the same. Eventually the first computer would shut down monthly then weekly then daily, until eventually it would shut itself down every 5 minutes or so.

The second computer followed suit until they were both unuseable. I replaced those 2 computers and the 3rd computer seemed to be doing fine... Until after about a month, it started doing the same thing... so now I have replaced it as well.

It is now to the point that they will turn on, but not boot up... In other words, the front power light will light up but the screen will be black.

Three computers broke...any1 know why?hp

Sounds like your computers are getting power surges and slowly it has been frying your computers mobo. If you have them plugged into a surge protector then the computers could just be getting old or they are just experiencing overheating.

Three computers broke...any1 know why?mcaffee

ok first are these custom built computer from same place if so it sounds like the forgot the heat dispalcement compond between the prossor and the heatsink tcheck that out now if store bought (walmart ect) then they have a 1 year warenty if you are buying used machines then they may need to be blowen out from dust and dirt build up before being used but in any case it sounds like a overheating problem to me
I agree with the third reply - looks like overheating to me. Check and replace the CPU cooler. Make sure you put thermal transfer paste between the processor and the cooler. Make sure the computer has a decent fan at the back to expel hot air. If necessary, run the computer with the cover off the side - I do this as it overheats with the cover on when I run certain games!

Quantum Computers?

If anyone has information about quantum computers, i would love to have some brief education about them. I know answering these questions will be hard since quantum computing is still supposedly in its infancy.

1) What do they do/what are they used for?

2) What do they look like?

3) What are some known organizations that have them?

4) How are they built/how do they work?

5) What's the advantage to using quantum computers rather than regular silicon based computers?

6)Positive effects of quantum computers?

7) Negative effects of quantum computers?

8) Any other information you have about quantum computers and would like to share.

Quantum Computers?husqvarna

-these computer can complete (theoricaly) millions of calculations at once, no step by step, like von newman computing machines, they CAN be used to solve encrypted code that would take years to solve in some very short time

they are based in the fact that qubits can achieve more than two states, four actually, maybe more later (up, down, superposed up-down, entangled up-down)

they can also be read in line. suppose a quantum machine of 500 qubits, a foton can read all of them in line, for a computing power of 2^500, 3^500, 4^500 bits per read

added that their clock can go faster than actual computers, due to they don't have demagnetizing period

Unknown computers connected to your network?

I'm using Trend Micro PC-cillin and I keep getting alerts saying 'Unknown computers have connected to your network' There are a bunch of IP addresses listed like 10!!!!! I clicked do not trust and block but I still keep getting alerts? and theyre still connected.

I use cox cable, just one computer. just me. no one else. Cable connects to box%26gt;%26gt; that connects to my computer. I dont have a password/username for anything. Just turn on computer and Im online.

I thought in order for someone to use your internet connection you had to have wireless internet? How dangerous is it to have other computers connected to your network? What information can they get from you? How do I block them? Please help Im very new to this.

Unknown computers connected to your network?microsoft

Trend is not a "smart" program. There is a config setting for Wireless Networks that is probably enabled in Trend's configuration. Try this:

Open the Trend Main Console. Click on the Network Security button. Find Wi-Fi Intrusion Detection, and uncheck the "Automatically detect computers... bla, bla, bla".

Try that.
Cable internet puts everyone on the same connection, that's why it slows down when lots of people are using your section. You need to have password protection on your network and a firewall, just like a wireless.
hey ... go to start %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;run%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;cmd%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; netstat -a

then u can know who are all connected to ur computer ...

Its jus harmless message ....you can ignore that

These are just websites, most of them won't harm you. And there's probably too many to block by now.

I send emails to many yahoo clients and dont want the emails to go to spam if Im sending from the other computer. Ive even tried creating a new isp email and when its sent from the other computer to yahoo mail it still goes into the spam. If I go onto webmail from my isp and send it to yahoo email address it does work. So it must be a setting on the 2nd computer??? Manufacturing Computers- Algebra 1 Level Problem?

You are selling two types of computers, Model A and Model B. Model A takes 12 hours to assemble and 10 min. to inspect, while Model B takes 6 hours to assemble and 30 min. to inspect. Model A's profit for each computer sold is $360, while Model B's profit is $216. An assembler works for 36 hours and is paid $900 each week, while an inspector works for 35 hours and is paid $1080 each week. If the total number of computers you can manufacture is 360 and all computers are sold, how many of each type of computer should you make to get the maximum profit?

Any help is appreciated, but please show your work. Thanks!

Manufacturing Computers- Algebra 1 Level Problem?internet security

You have to write inequalities for each sentence using two variables, say x for number of model A's made, and y for number of model B's made. Then graph and shade the inequalities, and find the coordinates of the vertices of the shaded region. Finally plug these into the profit formula to see which ones make the highest profit.

Here the profit is P = 360x + 216y

The inequalities would be

x鈮?

y鈮?

x+y鈮?60

There is a problem with how this question is written though because if the $360 and $216 are truly profits then it wouldn't matter how much the employees were paid since the cost of employment is already subtracted from revenue to get profit. So right now it's unanswerable.

Windows XP computer loses sight of other computers on network?

I have a XP Professional computer on a home network with three XP Home Ed. computers. I am using a Linksys router. I am losing access to the shared folders on the network on my XP pro computer. This loss occurs intermittently, working some days and stopping on others with no system changes on my part. The other computers on the network can still see and access each other (including the problem PC). There is never any loss of internet access. I am the only one who uses the computer.

Windows XP computer loses sight of other computers on network?internet

When this occurs, check the event log on the pro machine and see if anything is failing. Also, when this happens, are you able to access the shares from the same machine? Also, check yuor services are not going up and down, especially NetLogon service, it should be set to "Automatic". If it is on manual, it will only be up when needed. So if the machine sits for a while, it will shut off, and when you try to access a share to the machine from another machine, it may not start up immediately. Make sure it is running all the time. Also make sure your Pro machine is not falling alseep.

do a DOS command ipconfig on all the machines to find out the ip address and then go to the trouble system and use the command line

ping 192.168.1.100 ect... what ever ip addesses you have if they can see each other then you might try disassociate the computer from the work group then rejoin it to that same work group.

2 (one master and one slave) computers in network and two monitors to view the master computer will be the best possible combination

Regarding two monitors you can read:

regarding networking of your PC's it all depends on kind of OS it has...

But I strongly feel this combo will rock, this is because you have larger workspace coupled by netwoked PC's

Hrm, you could get a serial switch box for the monitors and change video settings if you wanted to alternate between the two "on the fly" but I don't believe that would be all that "quick" probably 1-2 mins to convert things if you know exactly where you're going.

Is it ok to switch my computers video cards?

Ok, i have two computers, one for gaming, one for my family. The new computer i bought is for the family and has a NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE Graphics video card. It has built in Windows Vista Home Premium which sucks because none of the games work on it but they do work on the old one computer. The old computer can run the games but the framerates per second are horrible and the games are very slow. The old computer has an Intel(R) 828245 G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics controller. Now I am wondering if i can take the NVIDIA card out of the new computer and the other graphic controller out of the old computer, put the NVIDIA card into the old gaming computer and the old graphics controller into the new computer. Will this work for both computers and will my gaming experience be better with the better video card? Please answer. Thanks.

Is it ok to switch my computers video cards?live update

It depends.

The newer computer might have a PCI Express video card slot, while the old one might be AGP based. If the older computer is more than a couple years old, that's likely to be the case. If you bought it in 2007 or 2008, you'll have better luck.

If they're both PCI Express, you should be able to do what you want. The only question is if there are Vista drivers for the Intel card.

No. they are both integrated chipsets. You cant remove them as they are built into the motherboard..

If two computers are on the same network can they still spread viruses if they are never online toge

I just asked this question but I rushed it and forgot to include some key details.

I will have two computers connected to the same router(same wireless network?)Both computers have file sharing disabled and remote access disabled. One has a virus and one is completely clean. If both computers are never online at the same time can the virus infested computer infect the clean computer? I understand how it could on a LAN but is this still the same concept even though it is connected through a router with no files shared on either computer? Please explain either way. Thanks a lot. Sorry for the duplicate question!!

If two computers are on the same network can they still spread viruses if they are never online together? Pt2?liveupdate

I can't help but to disagree with cel. I kind of have the same problem at home. One of my computers has a virus and the other one is clean, also i have exactly the same setup up you do. The computers cannot spread the virus to one another even though they are connected to the same router. the only way a virus can be spread would be if any files were shared between the two computers.

Your answer is yes and no. No if you don't access the other computer. Yes if you do access the other computer.

People rip themselves off buying computers retail?

This is really bothering me. People are getting ripped off because they buy new computers out of the store. Even worse, they look for ones that are less than $1000 which are computers that are already obsolete. Stop buying computers out of the store people! You're going to end up having to buy another one a year later. If you build your own computer, you could spend $1000 and have a computer that will last you years. There are a lot of people who build computers too if you don't know how. STOP RIPPING YOURSELVES OFF!

I've been working with computers for over 10 years. Anyone who knows anything about computers will tell you the same. Build your own. Don't buy computers that have generic parts installed.

People rip themselves off buying computers retail?mcaffee

I got a best answer on one question where I extolled the virtues of a White box.

Values of a White box include.

You KNOW your computer. Easy to fix usually if something goes wrong.

Cases are more user friendly, especially if you intentionally buy one that is roomy. Hate working on propriatory boxes. No room to get my hands in there. Sometimes have to take half the computer apart just to add RAM. Most White boxes you can reach everything without taking anything apart.

You KNOW your getting the best quality components because you choose what you put in the box. For years the ONLY HD that went into my computers was Western Digital. Now that Seagate has bought them out there isn't a really good brand. I'll prob go with Maxtor's and Fujitsus. Seagates are cr@p. Always have been.

I am looking for wholesale computers and computer parts?

am looking for wholesale computers and computer parts, I am also looking for computer packaging. Like what a stick of RAM comes in, also the Anti-Static Bags. I am looking for buy the wholesale too. I am opening a computer repair store and would like to give the best price I can.... I would also like to sell custom built computers, that is why I need a wholesaler. So here is what I am asking, Can you tell me a good wholesaler of computer/computer parts and computer packaging?

I am looking for wholesale computers and computer parts?microsoft office

That's great that you want to start a computer repair business. It could be very lucrative.

I have a couple of ideas to where you could start looking. These websites have directories of manufacturers and wholesalers.

www.alibaba.com

What you need to know: Not much personal experience with this website but I do know about it. Deals mostly with international suppliers.

www.thomasnet.com

What you need to know: I have searched their website for things that I am interested in - not necessarily computer parts. This site is primarily U.S. based suppliers (if I remember correctly)

These are a couple of great places to start searching online. Then you can go from there. I would also recommend going to some trade shows or expos having to do with electronics or computers and start networking with manufacturers that are going to be exhibiting there.

Connecting 5 computers through 2 routers?

I have 5 computers connected through 2 routers. The first router is also a modem and it is giving out 10.1.10.* ip addresses using DHCP. The first modem/router also has 3 computers connected to it. The 4th port is being used to connect to the second router that is giving out 192.168.2.* ip addressing. Sitting behind both routers (192.*.*.* range), I can PING and access both routers. Also behind both routers I can PING all the computers. If I am on the 10.*.*.* range I cannot ping the 192.*.*.* range. I also put each computer under the same workgroup. Both workgroups on each router can't see each other. I can get on the internet on all 5 computers. All I really want to do is set up shares on each computer and be able to access each. If anybody can help me PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Connecting 5 computers through 2 routers?microsoft

you don't need two routers, you need a switch and a router. the way you have this set up, you have set up two separate, private networks, and i don't think that's what you need, from what you have said.

if you got yourself a multiport switch, and plugged your computers into it, you would have a single segment, and everything on your network would have 10.1 address, and you would be able to ping, and connect.

i have done this on many occasions when i needed to set up workrooms at conferences. it works very well.

How to convert 'computer name' into IP address on home network of XP computers?

How do I use the 'computer name' of a computer on my home network of XP Pro computers to lookup the ip address of that computer remotely?

I have a home network with 3 XP Pro computers. One has no monitor and is only accessible via IP address using RealVNC. The IP address recently changed, and for some reason it doesn't show up on my router's DHCP table. I can browse to the computer via 'my network' and I can print to the attached printer. I want to look up it's new IP address so that I can connect with RealVNC

Thanks.

How to convert 'computer name' into IP address on home network of XP computers?moto guzzi

If you know the host name for the computer, you can ping the host name directly which resolves the IP address to the Dynamic DNS tables in your XP configuration.

You would do this from the command prompt:

Start %26gt; Run %26gt; cmd

for a host name of "laptop" you would simply type:

ping laptop

Once you type in the ping command and the IP address is resolved, the output from the command should look something like this example:

Pinging laptop [192.168.0.102] with 32 bytes of data:

The IP address for the host would be in the brackets. This will take the guess work out of it as opposed to pinging a range of IP addresses.

Also, provided Dynamic DNS is working properly, you may be able to enter the host name into the Connect prompt in RealVNC. I use WinVNC so I'm not familiar with the RealVNC interface, but try it out and see if that works. It does work using the host name in WinVNC. In large enterprise level environments, DHCP is used with hundreds of IP's in the address pool, and the developers for the VNC programs realize this. I would be surprised if RealVNC doesn't support using host names in addition to IP addresses.

Starting computers with no OS?

Imagine you have a network with a number of computers and a server. However, all these computers have only blank hard disks in them and no OS. Only the server has OS.

Can we use the OS in the server to power up all the computers in the network in one go? That is, can we use the server to start all the computers in the network?

After that, each computer can work on its own, just like an ordinary PC with Windows OS.

Starting computers with no OS?network

it looks like you are thinking of what is called "network booting".

assuming you have the correct number of legal licenses. it is very easy and definitely doable with linux or mac os x.

to do this with windows is possible, but requires a bit more of know how. there are some tools that help with this (like http://www.shareup.com/Network_Boot_Tool... but it is more difficult.

What you can do is potentially fire-up a VM (virtual machine) image onto each of the harddrives of the client machines. If they are running something like VMWare workstation, or some version of Xen, they might be able to boot a VM image from the network and do exactly what you want.

That is probably what I would do, its probably easier.

Starting computers with no OS?norton

If, the OS is a multiple retail license version then you can
not really.. as windows licenses are for individual machines..
