People rip themselves off buying computers retail?

This is really bothering me. People are getting ripped off because they buy new computers out of the store. Even worse, they look for ones that are less than $1000 which are computers that are already obsolete. Stop buying computers out of the store people! You're going to end up having to buy another one a year later. If you build your own computer, you could spend $1000 and have a computer that will last you years. There are a lot of people who build computers too if you don't know how. STOP RIPPING YOURSELVES OFF!

I've been working with computers for over 10 years. Anyone who knows anything about computers will tell you the same. Build your own. Don't buy computers that have generic parts installed.

I got a best answer on one question where I extolled the virtues of a White box.

Values of a White box include.

You KNOW your computer. Easy to fix usually if something goes wrong.

Cases are more user friendly, especially if you intentionally buy one that is roomy. Hate working on propriatory boxes. No room to get my hands in there. Sometimes have to take half the computer apart just to add RAM. Most White boxes you can reach everything without taking anything apart.

You KNOW your getting the best quality components because you choose what you put in the box. For years the ONLY HD that went into my computers was Western Digital. Now that Seagate has bought them out there isn't a really good brand. I'll prob go with Maxtor's and Fujitsus. Seagates are cr@p. Always have been.
