A computer store raises the price of one of its computers by 25%.....?

A computer store raises the price of one of its computers by 25%. During a sale the following month, it reduced the price again back to the original price. By what percentage was the price reduced during the sale? Round your answer to the nearest tenth of a percentage point.

This is one of my homework problems and I can't seem to get the right answer. can anyone help?

It was reduced by 20%.

Here's how you figure. Just pick an arbitrary number for the original price. Let's say $100.

Then, when the priced was raised 25%, it was raised to $125.

So, when it was lowered by $25 again, what percent of $125 was that?

In a math sentence, $25 = x * $125

To solve for x, divide both sides by $125.

0.2 = x

0.2 is 20%, so, the computer's price was reduced by 20%. That is already rounded, so no need to round it further.

Lets say beginning was $100.

Increase of 25% = 100 * 1.25 = $125

Sale = (125-100)/125= 25/125=.20 or 20%
20 percent or .2

1.25x = 100

/1.25 = /1.25 = 80

this means that 80% of the increased price is equal to the original price so 100 - 80 = 20%
Let's make the original price of the computer x (also could be written 1x).
