How do I connect two computers located 1.5 to 2 miles apart and share a quickbooks file?

I realize a remote access solution like LogMeIn is an option, but not the best one in this case as I would prefer that the remote computer did not have that kind of access to the host computer.

I would like to store the quickbooks data file on the host computer and use it from the remote computer, but have that be the only function used. Both computers could potentially have high-speed internet connections, or would some type of dedicated wireless connection be better?

Lastly, it is important to accomplish this as cost effective as possible. Thanks

If both already have broadband internet, just setup a VPN (virtual private network) on them. One end will need a VPN server the other just make a VPN connection within add network connections. When you connect both will have LOCAL ip addresses and become like local machines.

The downside to this is the bandwidth available, QB likes 10mb minimum which most VPN simply cant supply. It will work but the remote machine may be slow when accessing the data.

If you can mount a point to point wireless system it will deliver the best performance. You can get 5.8 gig or 2.4 gig point to point systems starting around 300/end. It isn't the cheapest method but will give you the best performance. If there are hills etc between it wont work so check a topographical map before choosing this method -- better yet hire a consultant who does this.. (there are some available)
