I have 8 computers connected to the same modem and they all have the same remote ip address.?

they all have the same ip since they connect to the same modem coming from a switch,router etc..

what im wondering is how can i monitor messages sent from one computer to another either thruogh instant messenger or whatever witout having to install software on the computers?

like if im one of the computers is there a way to monitory or sniff data send from one computer to another??

The best thing to do is contact your service provider and see if you can have more than one ip address

You could prolly do this. But it is fairly techincal to do. Which i do not know how to do. Since it is easier to install software. I would suggest installing software to the other pc's. Not nice thing to do though. Good luck which your situation.
