Is it easy to network the computers at work?

Is it easy to network the computers at work?

In my workplace, there are about 20 computers including laptops. Throughout the workplace is an internet connection which allows access to the internet.

As staff, we complain that there is no internal network. Ie, I have to use a USB stick, e-mail, etc. to transfer something from one computer to another. Also, the printers are only attached to one computer, so I have to transfer stuff on my USB memory stick to another computer to print out.

We are told that networking is not possible with the current system, and no upgrades will be made in the foreseeable future.

The way I see it, if all computers are connected to the internet, there must be a hub, router or something, and couldn't that be used for internet networking, too?

Correct = it's b*llsh*t .. your work IT Dept just doesn't want to put in the effort .. (of course they may also be worried about virus spreading from one PC to all the rest :-) )

To network without a Server, all PC's must be in the same named Workgroup and each PC must have Network Sharing enabled. Those PC's that have 'shared' folders can receive files from other PC's (assuming the other user accounts are given 'write' permission on that folder).
