personally, i don't see anything wrong with using computer for education in this age and time. as a matter of fact it has helped in speeding assimilation level. a teacher doesn't have to be around you to understand a topic, you can get the computer to teach you an item over and over till you are sure you understand it fully, some applications even include video for practical demonstrations. Educational Applications abound and they are doing the magic.
Even questioning whether or not computers are necessary is sticking your head in the sand and ignoring the reality of today's world. With a computer everything is more accurate, faster and can be more through. For instance there is spell check. Of course you can use it or not use it.
Hmmm, I beleive that if you lived in a rural area where access to a small library wasn't enough,then yes,a computer is an asset. Also,it's better to meet face to face with an actual human instructor to explain something in detail or a point of view that you can't get from a machine.
