Connecting 2 computers, failed internet.?

Well, i got 2 computers, both running windows xp. I want to connect them both together with a cross over cable. It works with sharing files and ect but the internet connection won't work. I only got 1 port for my ethernet cross over cable on my main computer to plug in. My modem that supplies me with internet, broadband adsl 2+. has an ethernet and usb, i use the usb but it doesn't work and doesn't provide both computers with internet.

Hi Donny,,, the cabling part is alright , its just the configuration part , that's needs to be worked on.,

in your case you can get the Internet working on both of your machines using an ICS ( Internet connection sharing) , that's is inbuilt in Ur PC.

HOw to do that: On ur main pc,,,,u have two lan connection , one is uSb one and another is Ethernet port ... which has cross cable going to another of ur pc.

Go to the network connections, where all ur connections are listed,. Double click the usb lan connection. go to advanced settings,, there u will get the option of ICS, enable it by putting a check mark on it....

This Wud enable internet sharing in ur pc..... Ur other pc wud be able to get the ineternet.. Renew the ip using ipconfig /renew command in command prompt.

let me know , if this works..

add another NIC card to your main computer to be connected to your cable modem..... Thats it. and dont forget to connect the two computers with crossover cable. If it doesnt work ditch the cable modem.
This is going to be a struggle to make it work. Just go buy a 4 port router from your local Radio Shack or computer store for about $30 and connect the computers together to each other and the internet with the router.. a lot easier!

Here is one for $20 plus shipping.. http://www.outletpc.com/c3432.html
