I want to hook up four computers on a network and create a hot spot (wi-fi) at the same time.?

Restaurant:I have 3 windows 98 computers with touch screens and one office computer with XP home. I would like to wire all the computers into a wireless router for networking a POS point of sale software. Is this possible? And can I have the pos software just on the office computer and have the other computers access the software or should the software be installed on each one. Any reccomendations on routers or installation is appreciated. I would like to keep cost at a minimum.

I was thinking of getting a netgear wireless N router to do this.

You will need wireless N network adapter cards in each computer. Check the compatibility with Windows 98 before you purchase the router because you may not be able to find drivers for your network cards that support Win 98. You can still use Wireless G if it is incompatible.

The POS software depends on the license. Some POS applications only work for one user.

Sounds good, biggest problem would be security across the network and possibly throughput.

Windows 98 can be a bit buggy with wireless.
easy etherenet cables to all and the router
Here's some guide regarding networking your computers for restaurant, and an added link for becoming a hotspot operator!

Most POS systems I know were the database was centered on one computer (server), and each computer were installed softwares to access the central database. You may inquire at one link below regarding POS systems.
Get the N router, but N is higher priced now. You can use wireless and wired at the same time. Set up security on each computer so you dont get unauthorized access.
