iv tried all the wizards and iv created a workgroup and everything, but when i try to access either computer through the opposit computer it just sais i might not have permission to access this server. can somebody please help me, like a step by step.
The 2 computers are connected to a router using crossover cables and both running on win xp pro.

if connecting from PC to router you should be using straight through cables not crossover cables.
So if both PCs are connected with straight through cables to the hub or router, then enable file %26 print sharing, share 1 folder (anything or make one) to start with, make sure they are both in the same workgroup. if that still doesn't work its probably firewall, disable any security or firewall software and try it. once you know what it is you can configure the firewall and re-enable it

get a wireless router it will be much more simple believe me
