Windows XP on multiple computers?

OK, here's the situation...the "MYTH" is that if you install one copy of Windows XP on multiple computers that when those computers sign on to the internet, Microsoft will find out and your computer will lock up or something........See, I installed one copy of Windows XP on three computers (a Desktop, and two Laptops) at the same address, and activated them on the same phone line like a couple of years ago, and nothing has happened yet. Also, I Didnt register any of them, and all three of them are at different addresses now.

My question is, is that "Myth" false, or are all the computers still working because they where activated at the same address?

Or are they still working because they didnt get register, so Microsoft cant tell which computer is which???

when you activate windows xp it sends microsoft details of all your hardware so it knows what computer is running on each serial key. that serial key is then locked to that hardware, thats why when you upgrade your motherboard (or other hardware) you need to contact microsoft to re-activate windows xp. I think eventually you will be stopped of downloading updates as if you were using a copy
