Computers will soon be smarter than mankind...?

My current events teacher showed us a slideshow from an organization, i cant remember which so you'll just have to trust me...but one slide said something about how in 30-40 years from now, computers will be smarter than mankind. I can't comprehend this because mankind created computers %26 computer programming %26 everything...what do you think?

the human brain is the single most complicated thing in the world. if you ask me possibilities of the brain are infinite, even WE dont completely understand it, and how else could they create something better than it. and even if we did, theres just a touch of life or imagination that could never be copied.

i dont even want to think about it coz it would just drive me nuts.

At current technologies, it seems impossible to make machines to be able to learn by themselves. Usually it still requires human intervention. It's because the human brain is very complicated to a point that it's near impossible to copy it by digital means.

So by that logic, it's actually very wishful thinking that in 30 to 40 years machines/computers can be smarter than mankind.
That's impossible. Computers are only as smart as you make them.

Frankly, I think they're already smarter than about half of mankind. And once they become self aware, the other half is screwed too.
I have the same thought as you about this.
there's always a chance of something going wrong, and may be, just maybe there might robots. like in I Robot.i think that there's going to be a time when practically every human will depend on their computers/ electronic to live life.

True computers where made by humans. they were made soley because they could preform complex exquations and desipher nearly anything faster than humans.

Computers can NEVER be as smart as humans unless programmed with AI and emotions which in a way, would make them human.

In 30-40 years, Humans may have thier hands on Artificial Intelegence but I don't think that a computer could have the logic and capability to learn like a human does. It simple does what it is programmed to do. If programmed to learn, It learns in a different way than humans.

I didn't see my computer drag it's butt out of bed to go off to work today. I haven't seen it pay taxes. Yet, it lives a full, happy surfing life.
