Refurbished Computers?

I keep seeing these cheap refurbished computers on tigerdirect.com. I don't really mind getting a used computer, as long as it works. Has anyone ever gotten a refurbed computer? How did it work out?

I always buy refurbished computers, and they do come with a 1 year warranty I believe. Tiger Direct is right down the street from where I live in Markham Ontario, I've been shopping there for years and it is a very reputable store. It's a good option if you have limited funds.

I've never bought one but it should be fine, just make sure there is some kind of cover. If the company is good they will provide say a years warrenty to make sure everything is ok.
i would stay away from those. they use generic motherboards with stuff done to them to make them work better. if you don't know how they did that and it breaks down you are screwed.

I not say you buy here but tell my story.

I bought an IBM iSeries about 2 years ago for $200. Now these are like off-lease computers. My LCD has a Thumb Print on the Screen, which not noticeable unless you just try to see it. The Battery was not worth a flip and the floppy not work. BUT, I really never use a Floppy Drive and it been a really good Laptop for the money. It about 6 GB HDD, 700 MHz Celeron and about 196 MB RAM, I think 256 MB the max. It came with Windows 98SE and I did a full install of Windows 2000 Pro. The Install went well, even though IBM say to upgrade the BIOS. Which was hard to do, considering the Floppy not work. :-D

But, for the money and an External 120 GB HDD ($50 @ Wal-Wort, when the new 160 GB HDDs came in), this is a good computer. I not say I got the best price out there as many places to shop. But, I am happy.
I get refurbished computers often from Dell. They work fine and i have not had any problems. Even if you do have a problem, it is still covered under the base 1 yr warranty, so you can have it repaired.

I don't know about Tiger Direct specifically, but as long as they give you a warranty it should be OK.

You can save lots of $$ with refurbs - it's the only way to buy!

Beware of things like LCD displays and Plasmas though, these refurbs can be of questionable quality.
